Originally a zeppelin terminal constructed 1933-1936 by the Zeppelin company for the Frankfurt - Rio de Janeiro route. Converted to a military base at the outbreak of WWII.
One of the few remaining zeppelin hangars in the world.
Currently home to four active squadrons of the FAB.
This will be a major event site for World Youth Day 2012 when Pope Benedict XVI visits Brazil.
