Xenia was founded in 1803 and is the county seat of Greene County.
It is most famous for the 1974 tornado, which passed directly through the town and destroyed almost half of the city's buildings. This tornado was part of the Super Outbreak of 1974, which was the largest outbreak of tornadoes on record.
