military, place with historical importance, demolished, armory
The historic armory on the campus of the former Ohio Soldiers' and Salors' Orphans' Home was demolished in April 2013, after serving the home until its closing in 1997. It sat mostly unused by the current owners of the campus (Legacy Ministries International and Athletes in Action) and began to grow black mold and its floor began to collapse.
During demolition, two Civil War-era guns were unearthed from the rubble and were given to the OS&SO/OVCH museum. The story was covered by local news stations WKEF and WDTN.
