Kapwruksh RUKHDO - Chamakali Deda tree (Bhuj)

India / Gujarat / Bhuj

BOTANICAL name : Adansonia digitata
Chhamakali – Deda tree (As fruits of Chamakali is in the form of “ DEDA”) is believed an African plant species, Also Locally known as CHHAMAKALI, (by Kanbies)

But that derived name is not in Gujarati nor in Swahili language of Africa. But ancient times also known as “Kalpavriksha” Similar trees are seen at three places in Kutch and also in Himalayan region.

Largest one is in GODPAR village of BHUJ. Which is believed to be 4-5 centuries old. But the actual age of the tree is in Thousands of year. The reason for that being so OLD is by close observation of the tree in DEDA WADI od the GODPAR of BHUJ. (actual tree life is 2000 to 2500 years) see the close observations.

2nd tree is in front of the Kamaleshwar Mahadeva temple near KORA river of DAYAPAR (Lakhpat Kutch) on way to Naryan sarowar.

3rd is in back ground field of Alfred high school of BHUJ. Probably 2+ century OLD and might have been planted by British governor (associated with history of Alfred) during British Raaj in Kutch and in India

Observation study report of Deda traa in Deda wadi of Godpar Bhuj:

1)
Actual tree has fallen down due to tectonic activiry in river area of the NAGMATI river basin of The Hills of LUNKI in Khatrod hill range. The river of Godpar is one of the tributary to the Nagmati river going to Tappar dam and towards the Mundra to merge in the south to the bay of kutch of Arabian sea. (River is a split river basin due to tectonic split – both side of river have mirror image of the split of sedimentary layers)

So the original tree trunk is horizontal on the ground (pre tectonic tree trunk) But tree has specific characteristic to store water and to survive long. So the tree trunk has Survived (ring structure of the tree trunk vertical- If tree is upright the rings of the tree trunk are horizontal in the cross section of the tree trunk – which determines the AGE of the tree trunk) and new roots grew in to the ground to survive till date. New THICK branches grown towards the sky before few 4-5 centuries ago.

So what we are seeing now is the thousands of years old Horizontal Fallen tree trunk and then THICK vertical Tree grown from the Survived tree trunk few 4-5 centuries ago.

Leaves are in five leaf span , Some says flower do not come but fruits Only, But flowers have been identified. Also it do not fruit every year as in Kutch good rain only gives fruits so irregular Monsoon and irregular fruit pattern.

Chamakali Deda is Juicy and Sour and sweetie (KHATA MITHA), so very good digestive property and Saliva enzyme stimulator – help to digest food. Also Good preparation of nice Juice SARBAT is good for digestive system.

Also known as KALPAVRUKSH in Nakhtrana near KAMALESHWAR Mahadev temple near KORA (Dayapar KUTCH)

Though it has been said that the tree is African species of Baobab or Adansonia Digitata. The GODPAR DEDA tree is much older than the African trade and before portages arrived on western sea shore of India. So that particular DEDA tree of Godpar is before those trades in history. So it must be before that time interval suggesting the sea trade between India and Africa either might have started much earlier than we think or the Tree is original to Kutch.
