  • Sproul Hall is a dormitory. As originally constructed the High Rise area formed a T with the long stem section for men and the smaller cross bar for women. These were originally accessed by separate elevators and stairs with key access required for the womens wing at night. The low rise section had the conatined the food and leisure areas. Sproul was the 2nd of the high rise dorms built on the hill west of the valley that contains the athletic facilities. This hill was orginaly intended to also contain residences for the faculty. The only faculty residence built was the chancellor's mansion. I lived on sproul during the period when it was still segregated. Favorite activities were riding on top of the elevator and listening for traffic accidents on Circle Drive (Circle Drive was renamed for the former Chancellor).
