Brasstown is a community in western NC. It is primarily known for the John C. Campbell Folk School and the New Year's Eve celebration culminating with the Possum Drop.
The John C. Campbell Folk School is a folk school established by Olive Dame Campbell and Marguerite Butler in 1925 after the two women visited similar folk schools in Denmark and Sweden.
JCC Folk School has no grades and provides no credits. It is named after reformer John C. Campbell, husband of Olive Dame.
