Situated in the west wing of the Palazzo dei Musei, the section of Roman inscribed stone slabs and tablets houses the monumental testimonies of Mutina which have come to light over the past forty years following a series of discoveries in the areas outside the perimeter of the Roman city occupied in the imperial age by a monumental necropolis.

Of special interest are the testimonies relating to the burial grounds which extended along the Via Aemilia to the east of the city, such as the monumental funeral altar of the centurion Clodius. To this can be added the fragment depicting the bow of a ship, which perhaps once belonged to a fleet commander of the Augustan age, and the funerary steles of tonsor Lucius Rubrius Stabilius and cloth dyer Caius Purpurarius Nicephor. turismo.comune.modena.it/
