Wat Saimoon Muang TH วัดทรายมูลเมือง

Wat Saimoon Muang, วัดทรายมูลเมือง, is located in the historic center of old walled Chiang Mai.
A brief history of Wat Saimoon Muang (from a sign at the temple): Wat Saimoon Muang was built in 2030 B.E. (1487 AD). At that time, it was a small temple called Wat Baan Pa. By 2450 B.E. (1877 AD) it came under the patronage of His Majesty King Tilogalaj, King of Chiang Mai. Since then, its name has been changed to Wat Saimoon Muang. This name is thought to have come about because the area at one time had a pond where water from Suthep Mountain had deposited sand and mud or because the area wasa where villagers dug sand and made bricks used to build the inner city walls of Chiang Mai City.
