Smriti Sthal, Rithala (Delhi) (Delhi)

India / Delhi / Nangloi Jat / Delhi

Rithala village, known in earlier days as Rath-Wala or Lathi Wala, was established by Rana Rajpal Singh in Samvat 1441-42 (AD 1384-85). Prior to this period his ancestors lived in the nearby village Pooth, which they established in Samvat 1104-5 (AD 1048-9). A monument called Rana Rajpal Singh Smarthi Sthal has been built in honour of the village founder. The Smarthi Sthal is designed by the artist Ashok Kumar Singh in the form of a Tower with a small Temple next to it and built by Rithalias Trust (Regd.) in 2007-08 . The site represents the centre and the highest point of the Old Village where the first dwelling was built by Rana Rajpal Singh. Until the late 1960s at this site stood a mud-brick house known as the Bada Ghar.
