Since 1976, the James Rupp estate; he put the whole thing up for sale in 2016, with an eye on the potential for a new owner to add 9 new houses to the lot while preserving the house.
James M. Rupp was a past-president of WCCO-TV in Minneapolis and a director of King World Productions, TV producer Roger King's production house that became a leading distributor of popular syndicated television programming. He was a debater at Idaho State University from 1954-1957; he and his wife Sharon E. Rupp endowed the school's debate team.
The 11.5 acre parcel has a 6500 sq ft single family home architecturally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright Jr (better known as Lloyd Wright) and constructed in 1965. The home was originally planned for the first-ring suburb of Edina, but the decision was made to push it to the then-far less developed Minnetonka area for a larger piece of land. Lloyd Wright was not present for the construction or any of the tweaks needed to move it to the Minnetonka site and it was completed by a local architect. The last time the property was sold was in 1976 to James M. Rupp.
