The Ames Central Computer Facility, supplemented by other on-site facilities, is the hub for all computer, networking and other IT systems and technical staff that support the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and services required for daily IT services on Ames Research Center and Moffett Field campuses. Included in this suite of systems are: Virtual Machine (VM) based servers and data storage systems that support center and Agency applications, internal and external web sites used for outreach to the public; IT User Help Desk; the Network Operations Center (NOC) from which the Ames Research Center Local Area Network (ARCLAN) campus network is managed and operated; and data processing and database systems that support personnel and financial resource management functions throughout the center. The facility houses computer systems that are dedicated to specific center Research and Development (R&D) programs, with the N-233A wing supporting data storage systems used by the NASA Advanced Supercomputer (NAS) facility and other remote computing nodes. This storage system utilizes robotic magnetic tape "silos" to provide very high capacity file storage to end users. The system is linked to the N-258 supercomputers via high-speed fiber optic communications circuits. Additionally, N-233A houses an IT Systems Development and Integration Laboratory supporting agency network innovation projects.
