A blowout resulting from mechanical failures/cement integrity in 1987 ( well 427) resulted in a two year flow of gas/condensate/brine which caused extensive surface contamination. In recent years much work has been done to promote re-vegetation using saline tolerant plants native to Kazakhstan.
