This was Washington Executive Airport, originally known as Hyde Field. This should not be confused with Potomac Airport, which is only three miles to the West.

The airport used to house the District of Columbia Police Department's Aviation Unit, which consisted of three helicopters, a hangar and about 20 pilots and ground crew.

This was until then-Mayor Marion Barry realized that he could sell the helicopters and use the money for some of his other pet projects.
As reported in the Washington Post, the DC aviation police staff showed up to work one morning to find a locked hangar. Most were reassigned to the marine or special operations divisions.

Washington Executive Airport closed on November 30, 2022.
