The Campbell River branch of the British Columbia Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is now reached through the access lane from Merecroft Rd. The current SPCA branch handles the Bylaw Enforcement and Animal Control for the Campbell River Regional District, and also offers standard Animal Shelter Services. The shelter is uncommon in that the two services aren't normally filled by the same organization: usually one acts as an extension of the City while the other one uses donations to support a shelter for homeless and stray animals.
The building is a classic example of Old Institutional, commonly seen in schools of the last era.
