This mansion was built by Lemuel "Sandy" Bowers in 1863. The home was designed by J. Neeley Johnson builder and exgovernor of California. Sandy and his wife Eilley traveled in Europe selecting furnishings for their new home, they lived at the mansion until Sandy's death in 1868. Elley felt to finantial troubles loosing her home in foreclosure. The Bowers Mansion is a Historical Museum today in Washoe Valley.
