Prague-Troja (Czech: Praha-Troja) is a municipal district of the Czech capital, located in the north. Inhabited since prehistoric times. Originally named Ovenec ( Sheepfold). Population about 15000. Landowner Svoboda donated to the capital of Prague in 1922 more than 82,000 hectares, of which 22,000 hectares for the establishment of Zoological Garden was determined and the rest for villa development. The Troja name is derived from the 17th-century Baroque Sternberg´s castle Troja. The Prague Zoo and the Botanical Garden are located nearby.
