Invasion route for the Syrian forces in the 1973 war. The gap in the mountains to the west (known as the Kuneitra Gap) would allow the north arm of the Syrian armored force to quickly dominate the heights and attack the settlements below with artillery while the south force attacked through the Rafid Gap. 1,260 tanks and a division of infantry faced a single brigade of 100-150 Israeli tanks. The Israelis successfully defended this pass from well-prepared positions on Mount Hermonit to the north and Booster Ridge to the south.
