Jelawur is actually the central cluster of buildings. The left "pan handle" (for lack of a better word ) is Anjuwan (spelling local village names was never my strong suite). The people do not even attend any of the multiple mosques in Jelawur. They are Alakozi and Jelawur is Ghilzi. The cluster of building should also be limited on the right side of the image (north east). is not jelawur either. I can not recall the name but they are Alakozi. The north of the central cluster should be limited to the southern edge of the small fields. This is Alakozi as well. Alakozi and Ghilzi are natural rivals. The Ghilzi control the fields to the south of the main cluster of buildings all the way to the "first canal". The land then is Alakozi again. Alakozi took the land from Ghilzi in the 1700's and took it by force, with permission from the Shah of Iran; who was supported by the Alakozi when the shah unseated the Ghilzi from power in the region. The canals were constructed with the recourses provided by the US department of agriculture. The US efforts were a part of an attempt to influence the region during the "Great Game". The dams and canals expanded the amount of land that could be farmed and as such the Ghilzi did acquire some land to use for farming. It is Ironic that we the US helped the Ghilzi controlled "Talibal" improve their lives to such an extent that the positive effects are still being enjoyed by the Ghilzi. The people of Jelawur are tightly bonded and loyal to one another. As are the Alakozi surrounding them. I was told by a local Popuzi that the Alakozi leaders (Khan Muhammad Khan at the time he was alive) are instructing some of their people to settle down to the north of Jelawur. If you go back far enough Popuzi Alakozi and Muhammadzi all come from the same lineage.
