Mohammadpur Upazila (Magura district) with an area of 234.29 sq km, is bounded by Madhukhali upazila on the north, Lohagara upazila on the south, Boalmari and Alfadanga upazilas on the east, Magura sadar, Salikha and Madhukhali upazilas on the west. Main rivers are Gorai-Madhumati and Nabaganga.

The location of the Mohammadpur town is 23.4009708N 89.5987549E. Mohammadpur (Town) consists of 5 mouzas. The area of the town is 6.30 sq km. It has a population of 6531; male 52.61% female 47.39%; population density per sq km is 1036. Literacy rate among the town people is 35.9%. The town has one dakbungalow.

Mohammadpur thana was established in 1924 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of eight union parishads, 132 mouzas and 182 villages.

Archaeological heritage and relics: Palace of Raja Sitaram Roy (Mohammadpur Sadar)

Historical events: During the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb, Raja Sitaram Roy (Jaigirdar of this region) renamed his place as Mohammadpur (previous name was Bagjan) after the name of Muslim Fakkih Mahmud Shah.

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census: Population 160340; Male 50.58%, Female 49.42%; Muslim 85.49%, Hindu 15.1%, Christian 0.08%, Buddhist 0.06% and others 0.27%; ethnic nationals: Bagdhi 71.
