This area is a commemorative park dedicated to the Naval Battle of Okpo fought off the coast here, which was the first in the series of major victories won by the Korean naval forces lead by Admiral Yi Sunshin in the Imjin Waeran (aka Bunroku no Eki) against the invading forces of Japan's Hideyoshi Toyotomi. The area to the southwest has a shrine and a musuem, while a huge monument stands on the hill to the northeast.
