From the Spanish "the gateway", may refer to nearby Arch Rock entrance to Yosemite. A roadside hamlet just outside the western boundary of Yosemite National Park on the 140, some independent lodgings and park support functions are situated here. In olden times trains from Fresno ended here and visitors to Yosemite Valley would transfer to stagecoaches for the final legs into the valley.
