Arnold "Red" Auerbach is won the most championships in pro basketball of any coach. He was head coach of the Boston Celtics and lead them to win eight championships in a row from 1959-1966. He also made news by being the first coach to hire black ball players. Red Auerbach would notoriously smoke his huge cigars during the games and these large cigars became his trademark image.
The bronze statue honoring him is composed of a narrrow bench like those in a gym with him sitting at one end. He is dressed in a coat and tie and is holding a large cigar in one hand and rolled up papers of some kind in the other. There is room on the bench for visitors to sit next to his image. Under the bench opposite the statue is a bronze basketball.
