This historic neighborhood in northwest Detroit is the home of Marygrove College and borders the University of Detroit to the east. The neighborhood was first surveyed by Joseph P. Fletcher in 1816, but remained largely farmland until the rise of the automotive industry in the 1920s. The Fitzgerald neighborhood was the focus of Bill Bunge's path-breaking work on urban geography, published as "Fitzgerald: Geography of a Revolution" in 1971.
