McGann Hospital is government run Hospital and part of the Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences. It was built in 1932 and named named by the Maharaja of Mysore, Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV after a famous Scottish surgeon from the UK named T.G. McGann who lived and worked in Shimoga for 30 years.
