Panya pani means sprig water at or near a Panya tree. Panya is a wild tree of short height which is worshipped as part of the rituals followed by local people. So the spring water near the roots of this tree is flowing out of the rocks, on the southern side of the spur, at this place. The discharge is also hardly a few litres per minute during summers with marginal increase during monsoon season. This is possibly due to the fact that the water stored in the fractures of the quartzite rocks. The spring is located just a few feet above the road (Pauri- khirsu- Budeshu- Kherakhal and beyond). This spot is clearlyand beautifully shown in the Panorama photograph in the Google Earth Plus under "Khirsu Rest House" though wrongly shown in the Western Nayar Valley but taken from Tourist Bungalow Khirsu.Might have corrected the location by now as requested. • Further more the water sample from this spring was collected by Dr. Jaffari of CGWB Lucknow quite a few years back and by myself during 2001 from GSI for routine analyis. The reports are in the record of these departments.
