castle, interesting place
Château de Valençay was built on a royal scale by the d'Estampes financier family over a long period starting in 1540. Later owners included Prince de Talleyrand – Napoleon's foreign minister – who hosted glittering receptions attended by diplomats, dignitaries, and statesmen. The manor was praised as "one of the most beautiful on earth" by George Sand, who also noted that "no king has owned a more picturesque park".
