According to legend, famed test pilot Chuck Yeager, a West Virginia native, flew a Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star UNDER this bridge during a boat racing event sponsored by the local newspaper. Yeager was expected to do only a fly-by during the event but surprised the assembled crowds when he accelerated to around 500kts, flew under the bridge and pulled up into a victory roll before heading back to base......
