The Howgill Fells are hills in Northern England between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, occupying all but the north-east corner of a triangle made by the small, conservation area-centred towns of Sedbergh, Kirkby Stephen and Tebay. The multitude of escarpments generally striate north to south and are of similar prominence and absolute height. In all but the western corner the main escarpments are complex, branching off into smaller escarpments.
