  It is a little known fact that beneath the old bowling alley at Park Parade is a bunker which is the secret government headquarters for the Regional Nuclear Co-ordination Centre (where all the bigwigs will go if the bomb goes off). From here, politicians will be able to co-ordinate counterstrikes on enemy forces. The bunker is equipped with full air recirculation filters and the walls are 25 feet thick (a tunnel leads to similar bunkers beneath Portsdown Hill).

  I think you mean it was the secret headquarters. The Cold War is over now. There is another former bunker in Basingstoke which was hidden beneath flats.
