In 1972, the name of Villamonte High School was officially changed to Don Luis Hervias High School in memory of the late father of the benefactors. A two-storey building with seven classrooms was built at Purok Hervias II, Villamonte. There were 175 enrollees and the first principal who worked hard with her faculty for the fulfillment of education’s goals was Mrs. Josefina Tumbagahan.

After Mrs. Tumbagahan’s retirement in 1979, Mr. Alfonso T. Gonzales took over the administrative post. In 1984, the school had developed from a locally-funded high school to a nationalized one, bearing its present name, the Luis Hervias National High School.

In School Year 1998-1999, the Mandalagan National High School – Luis Hervias Extension was established. Residents of Eroreco Village and nearby puroks and sitios were given priority to enroll. At present, the school has more than 1,600 and 60 members of the faculty and staff under the leadership of its principal Ms. Patria R. Arro.
