village, ghost town, historical layer / disappeared object
Formerly Grantsville. The origin of the name Aitch (pronounced 'H') stood for the first letters of the names Anderson, Isenberg, Taylor, Crum and Henderson. These were five farmers who wished the towns post office would be named after them, the couldn't come to an agreement and the first letters of their names were compromised. Now a launching area, the town met its demise in 1972 when the Corps created Raystown Lake. Rumors are that there are entire towns (and dead bodies of towns people who refused to leave) still intact under the water, only a few more permanent structures were left in place. Some roads, a bridge over the old river, the original power station and the original dam still remain.
