Schwarzenberg is a village in the Bregenzerwald, whose centre is protected as an historic landmark. Around the church, you will find well preserved examples of alemannic-rural wooden architecture. One of the village's most beautiful houses is the Hotel Gasthof Hirschen. The house has a long tradition, extending back to the year 1601. By the middle of the 19th century, the village inn was already so famous that the likes of King Max II of Bavaria and the poet Eduard Mörike were guests of the inn.
Since 1975 the bold village inn has successively been remodelled into a 4-star hotel and restaurant accompanied by the adjacent “Wälderhaus”.
