Built between 1912 and 1915 the 39 mile Hallstead Cutoff shaved 3.6 miles off the DL&W's route through northeastern PA and eliminated many grades and curves. The massive engineering project included the massive Tunkhannock Viaduct and Martins Creek Viaducts.
