The former Erie Railroad Main Line alignment in Orange County, NY was abandoned in 1984 after several factors including deteriorating conditions and lack of fregiht traffic caused Metro North service to shift over to the Graham Line low grade freight route, which was 6 miles longer. This marked the end of rail service to the downtown stations in Middletown, Goshen, Chester and Monroe.
