  • This is also the peak of the Anti-Lebanon range (Jabal al-sheikh/ Mt. Hermon) 2,814m ASL. It is the highest military position in the Middle East. It has been there since early 1974, as part of the Diengagement Agreement that ended the Arab - Israeli war of 1973. It has been continuously manned by the Austrian battalion of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) who are experts in dealing with the high altitude Alpine-like conditions.
