The product of Italian sculptor Marino Mazzacurati, Martyrs' statue was inaugurated during the mandate of the late President Fouad Chehab on May 6, 1960. It commemorates the hanging of a cross-confessional group of Lebanese Patriots who had spoken against Turkish rule by Ottoman General Jamal Pasha in 1916
The statue was restored in 1996 and returned to its original location in 2004.
