  • The American cemetery is a beautiful place to visit. It's as well kept as anyplace you'll ever see. All of the servicemen/women are buied facing towards the padio and chapel close to the entrance. General Patton is buried at the edge of the padio, facing all the the troops. His plot has flag stones around the base to help keep the grass from being worn down. When leaving the parking lot go to the right about 2km. There is a large German cemetery for their WWII dead on the left side of the road. You'll notice a vast difference. The Germans have mass graves, the size of the iron cross style of head stones denotes how many are buried in each plot. German school kids come there once a year and clean it up.
