Urban creek; original water source for San Francisco, 1858-1900, water was delivered to downtown via redwood flumes. Mostly now buried in conduits, the creek runs (still!) west from Mountain Lake to this Baker Beach outlet, and occasionally causes spectacular landslides & sinkholes & lost houses. (see Doris Sloan, Geology of the SF Bay Region, UCPress 2006, p.111.)
