John Henry Munson was born in 1859 in Cobourg, Ontario. When he moved to Winnipeg he purchased an extensive piece of land (Parish Lot No. 43 St.Boniface) and built a large home there in 1889. When the area was made into a subdivision Munson was asked if they could name the neighbourhood after his home - Crescentview.
The original home was renovated and modernized during the time it was owned by the James Richardson family. It had its own private swimming pool and a large kitchen garden. The land was donated to the City of Winnipeg in 1976 and the house was demolished in 1980. It became a city park in 1984, and a commemorative plaque was erected.
The trail running through the bush near the river was a transportation trail along the river dating to the days of the fur trade and used by traders and early pioneers traveling west from Upper Fort Gary.
There are benches but not much else as far as amenities go. On weekends and nice days in spring the park becomes full of people playing games and picnicking on the grass. It is also popular with joggers and dog walkers.
