The pillared shopfront on Queen's Street originally belonged to "Marments" Department Store a veritable shopping institution in Cardiff for more than a hundred years. The store originally opened in 1879 & closed only in August 1986.

It later became the entrance to the spectacularly unsuccessful Queens West Shopping Centre which opened in December 1987. Today the arcade, as such, no longer functions but the building remains a home for several independent successful retail outlets.
