Cardiff City Council has sub-divided its City electoral wards into designated City Communities or Divisions for administrative and statistical purposes. The attached polygon represents the "Castle" Community division, which is a part of the wider Cathays Electoral Ward and effectively represents the whole of the City Centre area of Cardiff, coupled with its award winning Civic Centre surrounding Queen Alexandra Gardens just to the north and the larger (central & southern) part of Bute Park (see outline map above).

It is to be distinguished from the 'Castle Quarter' area which forms a smaller part of the Castle Community Division based around the Castle itself, Castle Street and the shopping district immediately to the south thereof as far as 'the Hayes'.
