The only city in American Samoa, with a population of 11,500 in 2000; the capital of the territory of American Samoa. Although Pago Pago is the name of one of many villages comprising the urban area, the name has been given the the city as a whole. Located on Pago Pago Harbor, in the island of Tutuila. Tourism, entertainment, food, and tuna canning are the primary industries here. From 1878 to 1951, this was a coaling and repair station for the U.S. Navy.
