Santa Maria dello Spasimo (Palermo)

"Saint Mary of the last breath".

A Gothic church, started in 1506, built for some 70 years, but never completed. No roof was ever installed. It was once used as a leprosy refuge. "Lost" for centuries, as it was overgrown with private homes built onto it, it was rediscovered recently, cleaned up, and now is used as an open air theater and meeting room. A Jazz school operates on the premises.

This is a particularly appealing sight, especially at dusk. Very few tourists ever visit it, but those who do are usually touched by the experience.
