The Classical town hall is one of the most attractive heritage buildings of old Makó. Originally a one-storey-building, it was the seat of Csanád County. It was extended in 1834-6.

The old one-storey town hall originated from 1780. The cereal boom of the Napoleonic war resulted in great prosperity and thus a new town hall was built in 1834-1836 using the stones of its predecessor. Until 1950 the building served as the seat of Csanád County hosting several cultural events, fine art exhibitions and concerts. Béla Bartók gave a performance here in 1929.
