Refered to locally as "The Lakes" these are artifically constructed balancing lakes. They were built during the construction of 'Craigavon New City' and occupy land that is part of Drumgor, Legahory, Belteagh, Tannaghmore & Ballynamoney townlands. Conceived as the large park/recreation area that would double as a city centre with high status government buildings and transport hub. Due to the failure of the New City Project and the resulting lack of population density in the surrounding areas the lakes have been under used. Large areas of desireable lakeside park land have now been zoned for residential development.

  • What do you mean by "balancing lakes"?
  • They are called balancing lakes as they are both connect so they water can move bbetween the two bodies of water and "balance"
  • Sorry that was terribly written! The two "lakes" are connected and the water can transfer from one to the other and therefore balance out
