Bridgeville is a community east of Fortuna on Highway 36. The town started as a station by a bridge built in 1875, the settlement first called Robinson's Ferry. The post office opened in 1877, originally under the name, Bridgeport, which was rejected because of subsequent confusion with the town of the same name in Mono County. The name of the post office was then designated Bridgeville.
The community is now a small village of 200 people.
