ghost town, historical layer / disappeared object

This area was formerly occupied by the railroad town of Clarke, which was planned and platted as a large settlment but never grew to significant population. Most of the land that was initially settled was north of the river. The town shows up on maps from the 1860s to the 1900s; the outline shows the town's size in 1876. Gary was later founded in 1906, and this area became part of the newer city sometime after 1929. Some remains of what was once the Clarke subdivision can be seen north of the river and east of the airport.
