Clive Barracks in Tern Hill is currently the home of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Irish Regiment which is the last remaining Irish infantry regiment of the line. The 1st Battalion forms part of 16 Air Assault Brigade, the largest Brigade in the British Army with its HQ in Colchester. 16 Air Assault Brigade is the only Operational Brigade in the British Army capable of delivering Air Manoeuvre, Air Assault and Airborne operations.

Tern Hill is situated in the middle of the North Shropshire countryside, near to Market Drayton. The camp and Service Families Accommodation are in a fairly rural setting, although the busy A41 separates the two areas. There is a pub, a late night shop and a petrol station with a cash-point situated within walking distance. The bus service into Market Drayton is good.

Facilities on camp include a Unit Gymnasium, Medical and Dental Centres, and an Army Learning & LearnDirect Centre with free internet access. The Service Families Accommodation estates are within easy walking distance of the barracks, and include an Infant School, Nursery, Army and Air Cadets’ building and Unit Welfare Office.
