RAF Scampton (IATA: SQZ, ICAO: EGXP) is a Royal Air Force station situated north of Lincoln in England. Former home of the 617 Squadron the famous Dambusters. The Station acts as parent organisation to 3 resident units, namely the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (RAFAT), No 1 Air Control Centre (1ACC) and the Mobile Meteorological Unit (MMU). As independent units each have a specific mission to fulfill, which when taken together result in the delivery of a significant defence diplomacy and operational output for this station

The "Red Arrows"

Acknowledged as one of the world’s premier aerobatic teams, The Red Arrows are the public face of the Royal Air Force. The Red Arrows exist to demonstrate the professional excellence of the RAF and promote recruitment to the RAF. Evidence shows that The Red Arrows have inspired a significant number of people to join the RAF, both as officers and airmen, and to all trades, not just aircrew.

Home of the Royal Air Force aerobatic team the Red Arrows until 2011. The Red Arrows, embarked on a five-day detachment to RAF Waddington from RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire, as part of a long-term planning process in preparation for the relocation of the team in 2011. The detachment began on Monday 23th January and concluded on Friday 23th
January 2009.

1 Air Control Centre (1ACC)

On the 1st of April 1995, 1ACC was reformed at RAF Boulmer in Northumberland to fill the role of the Royal Air Force's deployable radar and Command and Control (C2) element.In 1997 1ACC became the first customer for the Type 101 radar, which marked a quantum leap in performance over the Type 99. During December 2002, 1ACC received the Thales Tactical Air Control Centre (TACC), a system that has considerably enhance 1ACC's deployment an Battle Management capabilities. 1 ACC now provides a tactical Air Command and Control (C2) capability that will enable 4-Hour weapons control and air surveillance coverage within a given area of responsibility.

Following the amalgamation with the RAF Scampton Control and Reporting Centre (CRC), a new hybrid orgamization was formed providing both the deployable air battle management capability and static resilient Air Defence cover of the UK. From December 2011 all of 1ACC will be garrisoned at RAF Scampton.

Mobile Meteorological Unit (MMU)

Formed in 1962 to support military exercises, the Met. Office's Mobile Met. Unit (MMU) came into its own in 1982 during the Falklands War when it established a forecasting operation on Ascension Island within 72 hours of being called up. The unit moved on to RAF Stanley in the Falklands and remained there until 1985. Since then, the MMU has provided in-theatre support during the various conflicts in the Middle East and the Balkans.
