Riverdale is a Census Designated Place in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 3,153 at the 2010 census, up from 2,416 at the 2000 census. Riverdale is located 23 miles (37 km) south of Fresno,[2] at an elevation of 223 feet (68 m).[3]

The first post office at Riverdale opened in 1875. The place was originally called Liberty Settlement, but was renamed due to its proximity to the Kings River. The city of Glendale, near Los Angeles, could not name itself "Riverdale" because the name was already taken by this town.
Riverdale has an elemantary school, high school, and adult education school. Both high school and elementary school received "The Most Distinguished School Award" out of every school district in the state.

Alan Autry, a former Green Bay Packers quarterback, castmember of the television series "In the Heat of the Night", and former mayor of Fresno, California, moved to Riverdale in the mid 1960's and attended Riverdale High School.
